"BIGFOOT AND OTHER LOST SOULS" is the newest musical comedy/fable being presented at the Atlantic Stage. Barbara Hartwig, who makes her debut with Atlantic Stage, states "it's not a heavy dance show, but a lot of choreographed movement." The character Bernie accepts an assignment to write about Bigfoot and while she discovers a slew of tabloid-sized characters, she also discovers the truth about herself.

The play's schedule is as follows: Thursdays - Saturdays the performance begins at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 3:00 pm and will run through February 12, 2012. The theater is located at the Coastal Carolina University Myrtle Beach Education Center at 79th Avenue on U.S. 17 Bypass.

Ticket prices are: $25.00 individuals; $20.00 educators, military personnel and anyone 55 years of age and older; and students $15.00. As a reminder, this show is not recommended for anyone 11 years old and younger.

Many of you will remember him from the 1970s television sitcom "Good Times" where he coined the term Dyn-O-Mite. For many years, the ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE has brought delight and holiday cheer to North Myrtle Beach's residents. On Saturday, December 3, 2011 the tradition continues as Main Street in North Myrtle Beach fills with familiar holiday songs, colorful floats, marching bands and beauty queens.

The parade will begin at 5:30 pm. Join the community as everyone watches local businesses' and dignitaries parade down Main Street in celebration of Christmas. The parade route will travel down Main Street to Ocean Boulevard and will end on 2nd Avenue North.

I remember the first time I ever heard of the Carolina Beach Music Awards - it was my first year that I moved to Myrtle Beach. Traveling down the 17 By-Pass I was in the company of three great friends, one of which was going to be honored at The Carolina Beach Music Awards that night. Well, for those of you who have been on the beach for any length of time will remember "CRAZY GEORGE" the longtime and charismatic DJ at 2001 Nightclub. And yes, one of the adjectives used to describe "CRAZY GEORGE" would be colorful and that particular word was in plain view that night as he was adorned in a sports jacket that can only be described as "George's Coat of Many Colors" that was made by his beloved mother.

Well, here we are several years later and unfortunately we lost "CRAZY GEORGE" but the awards show is still in existence. Those of us living here on the beach call the awards show the "Cammys." This premier event is for Beach Music enthusiasts across the country who listen and dance to the sultry sounds of our favorite music.

Through the years many of us have dressed in beautiful formal gowns, guys in their tuxedos (and just a note here - the guys never wore socks with their dress shoes) and rented limousines to take us to the Alabama Theatre for the show, then out to dinner and finally ended the night at the celebration party at the Spanish Gallieon.

On Sunday, November 13 at the Alabama Theatre, the 16th Annual Carolina Beach Music Awards show will begin at 3:00 pm. This event will honor the performers, songwriters, radio personalities, DJ's, dancers, performers. engineers and promoters for the beloved music that we have danced to many, many days and nights. Yes, we have sand in our shoes, music in our veins and our "beach music" makes you keep coming back to our beach over and over again.

The Festival of Tables (centerpiece selections) will be open for your biding and the proceeds from these displays will go to support the Waccamaw Animal Rescue Mission.

If your tastes run towards satisfying your appetite then you will want to venture down the aisle of Festival of Worlds. Gourmet foods from various ethnic groups include: Mexican, Greek. Italian and Asian. And one of my all time favorites is the "Pumpkin Log Rolls" and they are out of this world - and come with lots of calories (but what a way to go).

The children will want to stroll down the brightly decorated lanes of candy canes and Christmas ornaments that lead to none other than SANTA CLAUS in his Victorian winter wonderland.

The Waccamaw Indian People will hold the 19th Annual Cultural Arts Festival & Pauwau this Saturday and Sunday November 5 & 6. The Waccamaw Tribal Grounds are located atn591 Bluewater Road in Anyor, SC. The gates will open at 10:00 am and admission is - Adults $6.00, Seniors 60 & over $3.00, Students 7 to 14 $3.00. Veterans with Veterans Feather will be admitted FREE and children 6 and under are FREE.

ALABAMA THEATRE PRESENTS KENNY ROGERS

The next few days we will see a mix of sunshine and cloudiness on the beach, but there are plenty of activities on the beach to enjoy from SOS, 36th Annual Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival, Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art, Myrtle Beach Greek Festival, Irish-Italian International Festival and ICEXPO.

I am sitting at the computer writing articles today and looking out over the ocean watching the dolphins swimming - what a magnificent sight to see. I guess that is why the statement that "we live in PARADISE" is so very true. Enjoy yourselves today and every day - life is a gift to us all.

PAWLEYS ISLAND FESTIVAL OF MUSIC & ART

PAWLEYS ISLAND FESTIVAL OF MUSIC & ART is once again embracing Fall in coastal style on the gorgeous grounds of BROOKGREEN GARDENS. Wine tasting, art, an independent film series and musical performances are the order of the day for festival attendees. For 21 years the festival has provided entertainment in various venues over a period of several days.

The city of Myrtle Beach is looking for volunteers for the sporting events for the fall of 2011. The events include the State Farm Beach Triathlon to be held on October 8 and the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon Weekend that will be held October 21 through October23.

On September 23, 2011 author, Lisa Patton, will be at Ocean One to talk about her newest novel "YANKEE DOODLE DIXIE." In this sequel to "Whistlin' Dixie in a Nor'easter," Leelee Satterfield returns to Memphis and her friends' peach daiquiris from the cold Vermont inn she finally sold. Nothing is the same with two young daughters in tow and no handsome football hero husband on her arm. In Lisa Patton's new novel she proves that we can go home again, and in many cases we should as stated in Fannie Flagg's review. Definitely Southern and funny!

The LONG BAY SYMPHONY begins its 24th season on Sunday, September 25 beginning at 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The venue for this event will be held in the Myrtle Beach High School Music and Arts Center located at 3302 Robert Grissom Parkway in Myrtle Beach.

UNIQUE VOICES will feature viola soloist Jennifer Stumm. Orchestra classics by great composers who propelled the musical thinking of their time to a new dimension, from intense drama of Beethoven to the chromatic sensuality of Wagner, from the distinctive voice of Hindemith to Weber's jaunty, folk-based Romanticism.

As a tenth anniversary tribute to the 9/11 tragedy, the LBS performs Nacbamn by area composer Donald Sloan, Chair of the Department of Music at CCU. Hungarian composer Bela Bartok's CONCERTO for ORCHESTRA, one of the most significant large scale works of the 20th century, forms this concert of cutting-edge music.

Immediately following the performance there will be a season opening reception at Pine Lakes Country Club. Cost of the reception will be $40.00 per person and $75.00 per couple. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet Maestro Charles Jones Evans.

36TH ATALAYA ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL

Enjoy the fine arts, quality crafts and Lowcountry food when you attend the 36th ATALAYA ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL this Friday, September 23, Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25. Daily admission will be $6.00 and there will be FREE admission for ages 15 and under. Several of the area's finest musicians will be providing music throughout the event. Times for the festival are: Friday - Noon - 6 pm; Saturday - 10 am - 6 pm; and Sunday - 10 am - 5 pm.

No dogs or other pets are allowed at the festival and the festival committee wants to remind all visitors that stroller and wheelchair access can be difficult due to uneven surfaces, stairs and narrow hallways.

The festival will be held at the Huntington Beach State Park below Murrells Inlet and across Highway 17 South near Brookgreen Gardens. If you have never been to this awesome festival, I highly recommend that you attend at least one or all three days - and while you are there you will have the opportunity to see the castle as you visit each room where craftsmen will have their items displayed.

The OCEANFRONT MERCHANTS' ASSOCIATION'S HOT SUMMER NIGHTS will come to an end this weekend as students are back in school and vacation time is over for many people. The beautiful Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is the location for the evening events near Plyler Park and are for young and old alike. On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings there are concerts from 8:00 pm until midnight. Tuesday, August 30 - Tru Sol performs R&B, funk and soul music; Thursday, September 1 - Eastbound performs country and on Saturday, September 3 you will be entertained by the Scott Pittman Band performing rock, soul and roots music.

Wednesday night, August 31 there will be a fireworks display out over the ocean at 9:30 pm. Friday, September 2 listen to the sounds of a strolling Dixieland Band beginning at 8:00 pm.

28th ANNUAL WORLD AMATEUR GOLF TOURNAMENT

Myrtle Beach is hosting the 28th Annual World Amateur Golf Tournament this week through September 2, 2011. More than 3000 golfers from across the United Stated and around the world are playing in this tournament that is being sponsored by Golf.com. This tournament uses an intricate handicap formula to level the playing field which features six competitive divisions, ranging from men and women 49 and under to the super seniors 70 and up.

Within the divisions, golfers are flighted by closely grouped handicaps. Approximately 60 different Grand Strand courses are being played for this tournament.

The Temptations got their start in Detroit, Michigan and they had a repertoire that included: R&B, Soul, Disco, Doo-wop, and adult contemporary music. Celebrating 50 years in the music business, the Temptations brought us such favorites as - My Girl, I Wish It Would Rain, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Ain't To Proud To Beg, I Can't Get Next To You and The Way You Do The Things You Do. For shaggers, this music was heaven sent as many of us danced to many of the Temptations legendary music.

The Four Tops' story is one of longevity and togetherness. These Motown legends teamed up in high school and spent over four decades without a single personnel change. In between, they became one of the top-tier acts on a label with no shortage of talent, ranking them with the Temptations and the Supremes. For many of you reading this article I know that their music will bring back memories of the past. If you are like me and many of my friend's here on the beach and enjoy CONSIGNMENT SHOPPING then lend me your ear for a few moments. Last week I had the opportunity to drive over to our neighboring town of Conway for a day of unique and eclectic shopping. As I drove onto Main Street my eyes immediately caught the sign that read "CONSIGNMENT ON MAIN."

As you walk through this intriguing store you will find yourself saying "I'll take that and that and so on. And then your eyes catch a glimpse of absolutely beautiful table lamps and floor lamps. Now, the obvious difference in these lamps are the lamp shades that are custom handmade. These lamp shades are Victorian and Turn of the Century styles and they range from simple to elegant to elaborate. You just have to see these shade designs that just take your mind back to times of the old southern plantations with beautiful light decor. The talent behind these pieces is Helene and she says that she will even recover your old lampshade.

Helene Merhi is the mastermind of this store and she is a delight to talk with. DINO'S VARIETY SHOW - CABARET SHOW

VISITORS TO MYRTLE BEACH -THANK YOU

I had the opportunity to observe vacationers come to the aid of an oceanfront lifeguard last evening as the high winds and rain approached the beach front. In front of the Maisons Sur Mer I watched a father and 4 young men run to assist the lifeguard carry chairs and umbrellas to the storage box. The gusting winds were horrible and the sand stung as it touched the bodies of these men who stepped forward to give assistance because it was " lending a helping hand" at a much needed time. Unfortunately I do not know their names, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU for being so kind and thoughtful - please know that those of us who live here appreciate you and welcome you back to our beach anytime.

Brookgreen Gardens presents "Cool Summer Evenings" each Wednesday - Friday evenings. On Friday concerts take place near the Pavilion Restaurant on the lawn and begin at 5:00 pm till 9:00 pm. 9/11 FLAG COMING TO MYRTLE BEACH

All of us remember what we were doing or where we were at on 9/11. On June 9, 2011 at 12:30 pm the NATIONAL 9/11 FLAG TOUR will be stopping in Myrtle Beach. This event will take place during the South Carolina Firefighter's Conference that will be held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Firefighters from New York will be in Myrtle Beach to assist local service heroes in stitching the South Carolina restorative patch onto the flag. The public will be allowed to do stitching after the ceremony until 4:30 pm. "Let's Never Forget Those Fallen Friends & Heroes"
